Lula and Putin discuss trade, Ukraine and UN coordination in phone call
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation on 4 August 2026 at Brazil’s request. The leaders said the call focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding and diversifying trade – especially diesel, fertilizers and other commodities – and coordinating positions in the United Nations and other multilateral forums.
