Russia and China expand tech ties as EU prepares major sanctions

Russia and China are strengthening ties in digital technology and artificial intelligence. During a meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan, President Vladimir Putin informed President Xi Jinping that cooperation in digital innovation and AI is opening new economic opportunities for both nations.

Separately, the European Union is working toward a consensus to adopt a significant new package of sanctions against Russia. Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel indicated that a highly demanding package, potentially targeting over one thousand individuals and companies, is being prepared for presentation to the Foreign Affairs Council in October. Rangel noted that sanctions targeting specific decision-makers and entities have proven effective in impacting the Russian Federation's leadership.
