Russia and China see 50% increase in mutual tourism
Mutual tourist flows between Russia and China have increased by 50%, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko. The growth is attributed to the implementation of reciprocal visa-free travel policies.
China introduced a 12-month visa-free regime for Russian citizens last September, allowing stays of up to 30 days. Russia responded with reciprocal measures in December. Both nations have since extended these visa-free policies for their respective citizens until December 31, 2027.
During a meeting on August 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed a willingness to work with Chinese President Xi Jinping to transition these visa-free arrangements into a permanent fixture, provided both sides find it beneficial.
