Russia and Iran deepen energy partnership with new gas projects
Russia’s Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev visited Tehran and met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss expanding joint projects in natural gas and electricity. The two sides agreed to create specialised working groups for each project and to monitor progress daily through the respective embassies.
Both parties stressed that the cooperation is part of a strategic partnership that can help both countries mitigate the effects of international sanctions. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin and followed earlier high‑level contacts, including a visit by Iran’s foreign minister to Moscow in April.
Iran indicated that a forthcoming visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is being prepared, though a date has not yet been set. The joint initiative aims to strengthen bilateral ties and develop energy, petrochemical and broader industrial cooperation.
