Russia and Lebanon discuss bilateral ties and UNIFIL mandate renewal
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgi Borisenko and the head of the Russian-Lebanese Cooperation Office, Mohammad Nasser El-Din, met to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between Russia and Lebanon. The discussions focused on enhancing economic cooperation and leveraging Russia’s regional network to support Lebanon in urgent matters.
A key topic of the meeting was the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which is set to expire at the end of this year. Russia expressed its support for renewing the mandate and ensuring the continuation of the international force's mission in Lebanon.
Borisenko reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to Lebanon’s unity and territorial integrity, emphasizing Moscow’s rejection of any occupation of Lebanese land and calling for a withdrawal to internationally recognized borders. Russia also expressed readiness to assist Lebanon across political, military, and economic sectors.
