Russia and Malaysia discuss strengthening bilateral ties
Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed greetings to Malaysia's Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, during a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. Putin expressed appreciation for the high level and friendly nature of the relations between Russia and Malaysia.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim relayed the Sultan's respects to Putin and reiterated the monarch's invitation for the Russian President to conduct a state visit to Malaysia. Sultan Ibrahim has visited Russia three times since ascending the throne in January 2024.
The leaders noted that the two nations will celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year. Putin highlighted that bilateral trade increased by 12.9 percent last year, describing the figure as “very encouraging.” Cooperation is expected to continue expanding across sectors including education, science, technology, tourism, and security.
