Russia and North Korea near completion of Tumen River bridge

North Korea and Russia are nearing the completion of their first road bridge across the Tumen River. Satellite imagery indicates that the North Korean side of the bridge, including a customs building and controlled entry point, is effectively finished, while construction continues on the Russian side regarding border facilities and connecting roads.

Analysts suggest the bridge could facilitate an increased exchange of goods, munitions, and equipment between the two nations. While some experts view the infrastructure as evidence of a long-term strategic partnership, others characterize the relationship as transactional. Under this model, North Korea provides arms and troops in exchange for Russian oil, food, hard currency, and advanced weapons technology.

Observers note that the intensity of this economic and military support may fluctuate depending on Russia's requirements following the conclusion of the war in Ukraine.
