Russia and North Korea aim to build a new world order
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated that Moscow and Pyongyang are collaborating to establish a ‘new and just world order’ based on multipolarity, equality, and national interests. In a message to North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's commitment to deepening comprehensive cooperation between the two nations, a relationship strengthened by the ‘comprehensive strategic partnership treaty’ signed by Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un in June 2024.
The diplomatic engagement follows significant military cooperation. Reports indicate that North Korea sent approximately 14,000 soldiers to Russia in late 2024 to assist in operations within the Kursk region. Additionally, North Korea has reportedly supplied Russia with millions of artillery shells, mortar shells, ballistic missiles, and rocket systems.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that the military involvement could escalate, suggesting that up to 50,000 North Korean soldiers could be deployed to Russia in future phases to increase military pressure on Ukraine.
