Russia and Pakistan plan direct freight rail links
Russia and Pakistan are working to establish their first direct freight rail services, aiming to link Moscow with Faisalabad and Karachi. Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev stated that both nations are collaborating with partners to develop these transport corridors to strengthen overland trade and improve market access.
The proposed rail network may also include participation from Belarus, which could further expand regional connectivity. While the project faced delays due to geopolitical tensions throughout 2025 and early 2026, officials are currently working to finalize an agreement covering freight operations.
In addition to finalizing the agreement, parties are identifying companies along the proposed routes that could utilize the corridor for transporting goods. Although no specific launch date has been announced, the initiative is expected to provide an alternative to existing maritime routes and bolster economic cooperation between the two countries.
