Russia and Tanzania agree to launch joint space program
Roscosmos and the Tanzanian government have signed a framework memorandum of understanding to establish a strategic partnership in space exploration. Signed during the Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, the agreement aims to assist Tanzania in creating its own national space agency and developing the necessary infrastructure for a domestic space industry.
Under the partnership, Russia will provide expert and methodological support to help Tanzania develop spacecraft and launch them using Russian rockets. Roscosmos has confirmed that it will launch Tanzania’s first Earth remote-sensing satellite in March 2027. The cooperation also includes plans to establish ground stations in Tanzania for receiving remote-sensing data and sharing scientific expertise.
Additionally, the two nations will collaborate on training space industry specialists and cosmonauts. Tanzania also intends to increase the number of students enrolled in space-related disciplines at Russian universities.
