Russia and Ukraine exchange strikes causing civilian deaths and infrastructure damage

Escalating cross-border strikes between Russia and Ukraine have resulted in significant civilian casualties and infrastructure damage. In Ukraine, Russian drone and missile attacks killed at least five people in Kyiv and injured at least 35 others. The attacks also struck residential buildings and a passenger train in the Sumy region, where ten people were injured. The energy sector faced severe disruptions, with the state provider DTEK reporting the complete failure of a thermal power plant and authorities in Mykolaiv and Kherson reporting total blackouts in certain communities.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian strikes targeted Russian territory and the annexed Crimean Peninsula. Russian officials reported deaths in the Perm region and the city of Graivoron in the Belgorod border region. In Sevastopol, Crimea, authorities stated that a man and a teenager were killed during an attack. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine has targeted various sites in Russia, including refineries in the Ryazan, Perm, and Tatarstan regions, as well as targets in the Kursk region and the Black Sea.
