Russia and Ukraine report civilian casualties in ongoing conflict
Russian official Rodion Miroshnik stated that more than 9,000 Russian civilians have been killed and approximately 27,000 injured due to Ukrainian attacks since February 2022. Miroshnik reported that between July and September, 631 civilians were killed and over 4,300 were injured, including 42 children. He noted that Ukrainian forces fired roughly 102,000 rounds of ammunition at civilian facilities during that period and targeted the Wildberries e-commerce logistics center 28 times.
In Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russian forces dropped nine bombs on a former school being used as a humanitarian aid distribution center in the Zaporizhzhia region on November 2. The attack reportedly killed 40 people, with over 30 individuals feared trapped under rubble. Zelensky stated that the strikes initially targeted aid recipients before hitting emergency responders and police.
The Russian Ministry of Defense denied intentionally targeting civilians, claiming the strike targeted Ukrainian military personnel and resulted in the deaths of 25 military members. Additionally, a major Russian strike on Ukrainian energy infrastructure recently impacted water supplies in Kyiv, causing a 16-hour loss of clean water access.
