Russia and US discuss nuclear-powered data centres and diesel deals

Russia and the United States are discussing new joint economic projects, including the potential use of Russian nuclear power to supply energy to American data centres. Kirill Dmitriev, the investment envoy for President Vladimir Putin and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, announced these discussions during the Russian Energy Week conference.

Dmitriev noted that the two nations are working on several significant initiatives following a recent agreement regarding diesel fuel exports. He indicated that the first contracts for diesel exports to international markets are expected to be signed in the coming days, following a telephone dialogue between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

While Dmitriev acknowledged that US sanctions and legislation like the Graham Act pose obstacles to energy revenues, he expressed optimism that the “ice has begun to break” regarding bilateral cooperation. He stated that these projects would continue to be implemented until the end of the current military operation in Ukraine.
