Russia approves national bioeconomy development strategy
Russia has approved a national bioeconomy development strategy aimed at significant industrial growth through 2036 and 2050. Under this plan, the government aims to increase the production of bioeconomy products by 96% by 2030, targeting a 55% share of domestic biotechnology products in the consumption structure and 40% technological independence.
Key initiatives include the construction of bio-eco settlements in the Arctic region to foster biodiversity research and resource development. The strategy also focuses on increasing the share of biofuels, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), in the national energy balance by 2050. Companies like Rosneft are already active in this sector, having successfully tested eco-friendly aviation fuels.
To support these goals, the Russian government plans to allocate approximately 12 billion rubles to national bioeconomy projects between 2027 and 2029. Meanwhile, the World Bank maintains a cautious outlook on the broader Russian economy, projecting growth of 1% in 2025, 0.8% in 2026, and 0.7% in 2027 and 2028.
