Russia has implemented a ban on the export of sulphuric acid, effective through December 31. The decree, signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, will take effect 10 days after its official publication.

The decision aims to secure domestic supplies for industrial enterprises and mineral fertilizer producers. Sulphuric acid is a critical chemical used in the production of fertilizers, synthetic fibers, dyes, and pharmaceuticals. Approximately half of global production is used for fertilizer manufacturing.

Exceptions to the ban include shipments under intergovernmental agreements, international transit cargoes, and specific authorizations from the prime minister or his deputies. This move follows a previous ban on elemental sulphur exports intended to stabilize the domestic market. Industry groups have reported that sulphur prices increased more than fourfold since the beginning of 2025, citing reduced production in Russia and Kazakhstan as a primary cause.
