Russia begins construction of nuclear reactor plant in Myanmar

Russia has begun implementing agreements to construct a small modular reactor nuclear power plant in Myanmar. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced the start of the project during a meeting with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently on an official visit to Russia.

Mishustin stated that the nuclear project is expected to boost cooperation in scientific research and serve as a symbol of friendship between the two nations. Beyond energy, Russia expressed interest in expanding bilateral trade, investment, and high-technology cooperation, specifically in the digital economy, autonomous electronic systems, and artificial intelligence.

Additional areas for collaboration include humanitarian cooperation, tourism exchanges, and Russian business participation in the Dawei Special Economic Zone.
