Russia blames West for global food shortages and instability
Russia has accused Western nations of using trade practices as a geopolitical tool, contributing to a global food shortage. Kirill Logvinov, a department director, stated that approximately one-third of the world's population cannot afford quality food due to these coercive Western trade practices.
According to Logvinov, food prices have risen by 25 percent over the last five years. He noted that food inflation threatens political stability, macroeconomic balance, and social justice. Despite global technological and economic advancements, over 600 million people worldwide continue to face hunger.
Russian Minister for Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov previously noted that the practice of using food trade ‘as a weapon to achieve political goals’ is being used against Russia. He also mentioned that Russian proposals regarding food supply regulation were considered during a G20 ministerial meeting on trade and economic development.
