Russia builds massive radar system in Kaliningrad near Polish border

Satellite imagery from the Iceye observation system reveals that Russia is constructing a large over-the-horizon (OTH) radar installation in Gvardeysk, located in the Kaliningrad exclave near the borders of Poland and Lithuania.

The facility features three antenna arrays, each approximately 500 meters long, surrounded by double fencing. This OTH technology is designed to detect targets invisible to standard radar, including ballistic missiles, aircraft, and ship movements at distances ranging from 900 to 3,000 kilometers.

Reports indicate the installation could allow Russia to monitor military activities in Poland, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Experts suggest the development is part of an effort to transform Kaliningrad into an electronic warfare hub. Additionally, satellite photos show new military aircraft positions at Chkalovsk airport and S-400 anti-missile system ramps in the port of Baltiysk.
