Russia builds world's largest northern oil port in the Arctic

Russia is constructing what President Vladimir Putin describes as the world’s largest northern oil port in the Arctic. Located in Sever Bay, the new terminal facility is designed to significantly increase oil trade volumes along the Northern Sea Route.

The first terminal alone has an annual capacity of 30 million tons of oil. Once fully operational, the project aims to increase total cargo transport along the Northern Sea Route from 37 million tons last year to 70 million tons annually by the end of the current decade. The development is part of a broader effort to boost the economic attractiveness of Siberia and the Far East.

As part of the Vostok Oil project, Putin also inaugurated the first oil shipment to the Arctic-class tanker Valentin Pikul, which was launched at the Zvezda shipyard. Additionally, the project highlights growing cooperation with China, following statements from Chinese Vice President Ding Xuexiang regarding the expansion of regional cooperation and the implementation of agreements between the Russian and Chinese leadership.
