Russia calls for NATO military dialogue to prevent accidental war
Russia's ambassador to Norway, Nikolai Korciunov, has called for an urgent strengthening of direct communication channels with NATO military command structures. He warned that the current lack of dialogue significantly increases the risk of a total war triggered by tactical miscalculations or unintended escalations at European borders.
While Moscow expressed openness to restoring secure operational lines with NATO military leaders, the ambassador maintained a stance of total deadlock regarding political dialogue with European Union structures in Brussels. This diplomatic rift follows the drastic reduction of official contacts since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, characterized by the expulsion of diplomats and heightened suspicions of sabotage.
The warning follows a confidential mission to Moscow by CIA Director John Ratcliffe, aimed at preventing further escalation between Russia and U.S. allies. Regional tensions have been further exacerbated by unauthorized drone and missile incursions into European airspace.
