Russia, China, and North Korea military ties pose Indo-Pacific risks

Experts are warning of increasing security risks in the Indo-Pacific and for Australia due to a deepening military alliance between Russia, China, and North Korea. This cooperation is being driven by the ongoing war in Ukraine, where the three nations are increasingly working together.

Former CIA Director David Petraeus noted that China is demonstrating a significant capacity to design and mass-produce new weaponry for the Russian military-industrial complex. He highlighted China’s ability to scale the production of robotic systems, drones, and other essential components, suggesting the nation is learning rapidly from the conflict in Ukraine.

Additionally, analysts pointed to Russia’s growing reliance on North Korea, which has been supplying Russia with numerous missiles. This expanding weapons trade is viewed as a rising threat to regional stability in Asia.
