Russia accuses EU of transferring 8 billion euros in frozen asset revenues to Ukraine
The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that the European Union has transferred approximately 8 billion euros in revenue from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine since 2024. According to Vladislav Maslenikov, Director of the European Affairs Department, more than 3.5 billion euros of these funds have been specifically designated for the purchase of weapons.
Currently, over 210 billion euros of Russian Central Bank assets remain frozen within the European Union, primarily held through the Belgian clearing system Euroclear. Moscow has repeatedly labeled the freezing of these assets as illegal. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that Russia will take retaliatory action if the West proceeds with the full confiscation of these assets.
The Kremlin has characterized the transfer of interest and income from these frozen assets to Kyiv as an act of theft. Russian officials suggest that EU discussions regarding the seizure of assets are being driven by member states such as Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, and Germany, as the EU seeks alternative methods to fund Ukraine's military and economic needs.
