Russia claims European regret over abandoning energy resources
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated that an increasing number of countries and politicians are expressing regret over the decision to abandon Russian oil and gas resources. Speaking on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week forum in Moscow, Novak suggested that recent global market developments highlight the necessity of having secure energy supplies.
Novak addressed the status of the Nord Stream pipelines, which were damaged by explosions in the Baltic Sea in September 2022. He noted that while three of the four lines are non-functional, one remains undamaged and technically capable of transporting gas. However, he emphasized that restarting the infrastructure would require political, regulatory, and commercial decisions, noting that sanctions and European opposition remain significant obstacles.
Russia has signaled its readiness to resume energy deliveries to Europe should those nations choose to renew or expand cooperation.
