Russia detains British Embassy security guard for alleged Ukrainian espionage

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced the arrest of a Russian security guard working at the British Embassy in Moscow. The suspect, a 45-year-old man born in 1981, is accused of acting as an agent for the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

According to the FSB, the individual allegedly collected sensitive intelligence, including the residential addresses, vehicles, and security arrangements of British diplomats, including Ambassador Nigel Casey. The information was reportedly shared with Ukrainian blogger Dmitry Karpenko, known by the pseudonym Apostol Dmitry.

The Russian authorities claim the operation was a ‘false flag’ intended to facilitate acts of sabotage or terrorism against British diplomats. The FSB alleges the ultimate goal was to frame Russia for such attacks, thereby drawing the United Kingdom into a direct armed conflict with Russia, securing more military aid for Kyiv, and increasing economic sanctions against Moscow.

The suspect has been charged with high treason under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code. Neither the United Kingdom nor Ukraine has officially responded to these allegations.
