Russia claims its forces are advancing in Ukraine while pledging readiness for peace talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russian troops are advancing along the entire front in Ukraine, but Russia remains ready to achieve a peaceful solution. He cited an agreement reached at an August 2025 summit in Alaska with U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that any settlement requires Ukraine’s consent.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the United States of failing to honor the Alaska accords, claiming the U.S. has not implemented the proposed initiative that could end hostilities. Putin added that Russia does not oppose Ukraine’s economic integration with the EU, but objects to the EU turning into a military bloc, referencing German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s proposal for Ukraine to become an associate member.

The statements were made during a meeting with heads of several international agencies.
