Russia concludes overseas voting for State Duma elections
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the conclusion of overseas voting for the elections to the 9th State Duma. The final polling station abroad closed on September 20 at 05:00 Moscow time.
To facilitate voting for citizens living or temporarily staying abroad, a total of 326 polling stations were established within Russian embassies, permanent missions, and consulates across 152 countries. This was coordinated between the Central Election Commission of Russia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In several nations, including Bahrain, Israel, Iraq, Yemen, China, Kuwait, and Libya, voting concluded ahead of the main election day due to local working hours and religious calendars. Additionally, 121 early voting sessions were organized for military personnel and employees of Russian companies working abroad.
The Ministry also reported that in certain countries designated as ‘unfriendly’ by Russia, citizens encountered ‘attempts at intimidation’ prior to the election, though it stated that citizens proceeded to vote despite this pressure.
