Russia condemns U.S. arrest warrant for Raúl Castro

Russia has issued a categorical rejection and firm condemnation of an arrest warrant issued by a Miami judge against former Cuban President Raúl Castro. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs argued that the legal and political assessments regarding the events of February 1996, which Washington attributes to Castro, were already addressed in UN Security Council Resolution 1067 in July 1996.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the current accusation, presented more than 30 years later, appears to be an unfounded attempt at revenge by the anti-Cuban lobby in Miami. Furthermore, Moscow warned that increasing tensions regarding Cuba could destabilize Latin America and the Caribbean, noting that social unrest in the island nation could trigger mass migration to neighboring countries.
