Russia condemns US sanctions on Cuba and reaffirms support for Havana

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denounced what he called Washington’s neocolonial pressure on Cuba, accusing the United States of using tariffs and executive orders to choke Cuban oil imports and restrict essential goods such as food, medicine and hygiene products. Lavrov said the measures aim to destabilise Cuba’s economy and population, and he pledged continued Russian solidarity with the island. Cuban President Miguel Díaz‑Canel described the sanctions as a deliberate plan to suffocate the country and vowed to maintain dialogue on equal terms while seeking alternative production and supply channels.

The Russian statement was delivered at the XII Round‑Table of Ambassadors in the Russian Diplomatic Academy and highlighted broader Russian criticism of U.S. unilateral coercive actions, drawing parallels with sanctions on Venezuela and Iran.
