Russia could replace Ukraine at 2027 Ice Hockey World Championship

The Russian national ice hockey team may take the place of Ukraine at the 2027 World Championship, according to the president of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association.

This follows a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which instructed the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to allow Russian national teams to participate in international competitions starting from the 2026/27 season. This includes the upcoming Men's World Championship in Germany.

Ukraine had originally secured a spot in the tournament after earning promotion from the first division to the elite tier based on last season's results.
