Russia criticizes Japan over Ukraine peace; Libya committee addresses judicial split
Russia has accused Japan of hindering long-term peace prospects in Ukraine through its recent anti-Russian measures. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the Sanae Takaichi government is distancing itself from peace efforts to align with other hostile nations. Russia warned that Tokyo’s unfriendly actions, including new restrictions and plans to use Type-25 offensive missile systems during joint US-Japan maneuvers, will face retaliatory measures targeting specific Japanese interests.
In Libya, the 4+4 Committee met to discuss judicial divisions and their impact on the upcoming electoral process. The committee emphasized the urgent need to address the split within the judiciary while respecting its independence to ensure election integrity. Members aim to bridge differences between the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, and the Supreme Judicial Council. The committee intends to continue consultations with Libyan parties to secure support for the August 30 agreement, with a follow-up meeting scheduled before the end of the month.
