Russia criticizes new US sanctions law signed by Donald Trump

Russian Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that new sanctions legislation signed by US President Donald Trump will not have a positive impact on bilateral relations between Russia and the United States.

The law authorizes the imposition of additional tariffs of up to 100% on products from countries among the top five buyers of Russian oil and gas. Furthermore, it allows for tariffs of up to 500% on Russian goods imported into the United States.

Regarding the potential for a peace agreement in Ukraine, Peskov indicated the legislation would not facilitate a breakthrough. This follows reports that Trump had previously expressed interest in advancing negotiations to resolve the conflict during a conversation with Vladimir Putin in August.
