Russia criticizes US economic pressure on Cuba
Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasili Nebenzia, has condemned the United States' economic and financial pressure on Cuba, describing it as 'neocolonial oppression' intended to trigger socioeconomic collapse and regime change.
According to reports, financial damages inflicted on Cuba between March 2025 and March 2026 totaled approximately $8.8 billion. The intensification of the blockade includes an energy siege and secondary sanctions against third-party entities with commercial ties to Cuba.
Nebenzia and other reports highlight that these measures have led to severe humanitarian consequences, including energy shortages that restrict access to potable water and food, as well as inadequate medical care for newborns and those with chronic illnesses. The situation is further complicated by the interception of energy supply vessels in international waters and the inclusion of Cuba on the US State Department's list of state sponsors of terrorism.
