Russia demands action over damaged Soviet cemetery in Warsaw

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Polish authorities to restore the Soviet Military Cemetery in Warsaw and punish those responsible for recent vandalism.

According to the Russian Embassy in Poland, a third memorial plaque was found smashed at the Mausoleum of Soviet Soldiers on Żwirki i Wigury Street. This follows an earlier discovery on October 18, when broken plaques bearing the names of fallen Red Army soldiers were found on two mass graves. The most recent damage was reported as discovered on October 22.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterized the incidents as acts of vandalism and urged the Polish side to return the cemetery to its proper condition. The embassy has directed its formal protest to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
