Russia denies evacuation of specialists from Bushehr nuclear plant
The Russian Embassy in Tehran has dismissed reports claiming that embassy staff and Russian specialists working at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant are being evacuated. In a statement, the embassy asserted that operations are continuing as usual and characterized reports of an evacuation as false information.
This denial follows international media reports suggesting that Russian experts had left Iran and that Moscow had dispatched an aircraft to facilitate their departure. The Bushehr plant is Iran’s only operational civil nuclear power facility, utilizing enriched uranium supplied by Russia.
Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear corporation, previously reported that its technical and engineering workforce at the site had reached 135 specialists, with plans to increase the number to approximately 200. The facility has faced increased scrutiny following regional security developments and projectile impacts on the plant's periphery during 2026 conflicts involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
