Russia deploys research aircraft to Arctic nuclear testing site

Specialized Russian research aircraft have been detected near nuclear testing sites on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Arctic. The movement of these aircraft, including the Il-976 SKIP and an early warning plane, occurred at the Rogachevo airbase shortly before a scheduled visit to Moscow by CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

Experts suggest these movements may serve as strategic signaling or a demonstration of force. The deployment could be linked to planned tests of the Buriewestnik missile or may be a response to recent NATO aerial maneuvers near the Kaliningrad region. The Il-976 SKIP, which is equipped for telemetry data collection and radiation detection, is typically used during missile testing operations.
