Russia deports two Cuban nationals after prison sentences

Russian authorities have deported two Cuban nationals following the completion of prison sentences for serious crimes. The individuals, born in 1987 and 1997, were escorted to a Moscow airport on August 18 for repatriation to Cuba.

One individual was convicted of violent sexual acts under Article 132 of the Russian Penal Code, while the other served time for aggravated illegal possession of narcotics under Article 228. After serving their sentences in facilities operated by the Federal Penitentiary Service, authorities deemed their presence in Russia legally “undesirable.”

Both men have been issued a long-term ban on re-entering Russia. This specific case differs from recent waves of Cuban deportations, which have primarily targeted immigration violations such as illegal residency or unauthorized employment. The move occurs amid tightening Russian immigration regulations, including new residency rules implemented in mid-2026.
