Russia develops domestic high-speed train capable of 400 km/h
Russia is developing its first domestically manufactured high-speed train, capable of reaching speeds of 400 km/h. The project aims to utilize artificial intelligence to support operations and incorporate energy-saving technologies to reduce weight, noise, and power consumption.
The new train will feature a basic configuration of eight cars with a maximum capacity of 460 passengers, though two units can be coupled to form a 16-car train to meet higher demand. The project is being managed by the Engineering Center for Railway Transport, with participation from Russian Railways (RZD), the Moscow administration, and the Sinara Group.
A high-speed rail line connecting Moscow and Saint Petersburg, spanning nearly 700 km, is expected to begin operations in 2028. This line is projected to reduce travel time between the two cities to approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, compared to the nearly 4 hours currently required by the Sapsan train.
