Russia proposes expanding cooperation with Vietnam

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko has proposed expanding cooperation between Russia and Vietnam into new and potential sectors. During discussions, he emphasized Vietnam’s status as a key partner for Russia in Southeast Asia, noting the strong political trust and historical ties between the two nations.

A significant highlight of the bilateral relationship is the rapid growth in tourism. In the first half of 2026, the number of Russian tourists visiting Vietnam reached 863,000, a substantial increase compared to the 690,000 recorded in the entirety of 2025. Conversely, Vietnamese tourism to Russia has also seen impressive growth, supported by expanded aviation connectivity featuring 31 flights across 15 routes.

Additionally, the 2026 anniversary of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is expected to serve as a driver for continued trade growth.
