Russia expresses openness to US peace initiatives for Ukraine

Russian officials have expressed openness to new diplomatic initiatives from the United States to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, provided such proposals account for Russian national interests and the current realities on the battlefield.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova both noted that while Moscow is willing to engage in constructive dialogue, any settlement must reflect the territory currently held by Russian forces, which includes approximately 20 percent of internationally recognized Ukrainian land.

Regarding potential high-level meetings, Zakharova and the Kremlin clarified that they have not yet received official requests for visits from American envoys Jared Kushner or Steve Witkoff, though they stated they would be prepared to organize such meetings on short notice. This follows recent comments from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who expressed a commitment to finding a middle ground to end the war, following discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Manila.
