Russia to supply diesel to United States under new agreement
Russia is set to extend its diesel export ban until the end of the year while utilizing a quota system to fulfill a new supply agreement with the United States. The deal follows a telephone conversation between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump earlier this month.
As part of the broader agreement, an energy truce between Russia and Ukraine has reportedly enabled an increase in Russian fuel production. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated that three tankers carrying diesel for international markets are already en route, with a fourth expected to depart by October 28. Refinery capacity reportedly increased by 25% in late October following a reduction in drone attacks on energy infrastructure.
To manage domestic shortages, the Russian government will allow limited exports through expanded quotas. These quotas are expected to quadruple from October levels, reaching approximately 2 million metric tons, or about 500,000 barrels per day, in November.
Meanwhile, environmental group Greenpeace is monitoring seven tankers carrying roughly 288,000 tons of Russian diesel heading toward the U.S. Greenpeace officials have called on U.S. authorities to halt these shipments, arguing that the deal undermines international sanctions and provides financial support for the war in Ukraine.
