Russia faces delays in domestic aircraft production goals
Russia is struggling to meet its ambitious goal of producing 1,036 domestic aircraft by 2030 to replace imports. Despite more than half of the program's timeline having passed, domestic airlines have yet to receive any new commercial aircraft.
To address the potential failure of the plan, Vladimir Gutenev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Industry and Trade, has proposed a more realistic adjustment. The new proposal suggests aiming for hundreds of aircraft over the next five to seven years, with a target of approximately 150 to 200 units by 2031.
Technical assessments indicate mixed progress. The Superjet SJ-100 is considered the most advanced model due to its history of mass production, with a factory in Komsomolsk-on-Amur capable of assembling 20 units per year. However, significant bottlenecks remain, particularly in the production of PD-8 engines by UEC.
