Russia faces economic strain amid fuel shortages and labor issues

Russian citizens are reporting increasing economic difficulties that contrast with official government claims of stability. A significant fuel crisis has emerged, with data from BenZinMap indicating that as of August 21, severe fuel sale restrictions were in place across 63 regions, while 19 other regions experienced local supply disruptions or sharp price increases.

In the labor market, despite Rosstat reporting a low unemployment rate of 2.2%, recruitment platforms such as hh.ru and SuperJob show a sharp rise in published CVs alongside a decline in job openings. Residents have reported issues including long queues for gasoline, delayed wages, and difficulty meeting credit obligations. Many workers noted that available positions often involve long shifts and low pay, leading to increased dissatisfaction.
