Russia faces plague concerns and Yandex data center damage

In Russia, reports have emerged regarding a suspected case of pulmonary plague in the Irkutsk region of Siberia following the death of a young laboratory worker. While Russian authorities have minimized the risk and denied an epidemic, international bodies including the World Health Organization, the United States, and the European Union have called for greater transparency. The situation has been further complicated by widespread misinformation on social media.

In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Ukrainian drone strikes have reportedly disabled two of the five data centers operated by the Russian technology company Yandex. This damage has impacted the company’s ability to maintain its AI chatbot and various online services.

Additionally, a potential shift in energy infrastructure targeting has been reported. Following statements from Donald Trump regarding an ‘energy ceasefire,’ President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that Ukraine would cease strikes on Russian refineries if Moscow stops attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
