Russia implements visa waiver for Vietnamese citizens

Russia has issued a decree, signed by President Vladimir Putin, granting visa-free entry to Vietnamese citizens holding ordinary passports. The policy, effective from October 15, 2026, to October 15, 2027, allows travelers to stay in Russia for a maximum of 30 days.

The visa waiver applies to various purposes, including tourism, business, visiting relatives, participating in scientific, cultural, political, social, economic, or sporting events, and transit. However, the exemption does not cover individuals entering for labor, journalism, study, or long-term residency.

Vietnam is the 12th country to receive this visa exemption. Following the announcement, travel agencies have noted increased interest in tours to Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Experts anticipate a 25% to 30% increase in Vietnamese visitors to Russia, supported by existing flight connectivity involving airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, Aeroflot, and Vietjet Air.
