Russia imposes airspace restrictions over Kapustin Yar testing range
Russia has implemented temporary airspace restrictions over the Kapustin Yar military testing range in the Astrakhan region. According to aviation notices, the restrictions are scheduled from September 28 to October 3, occurring daily between 9:00 and 19:00.
These measures have led to speculation regarding potential missile testing or launches. Observers suggest the activity could involve the Oreshnik, a medium-range ballistic missile system that has previously been used in combat operations against Ukraine. While Kapustin Yar is a known site for such activities, there is currently no official confirmation regarding the specific type of missile being tested.
Separately, Ukrainian authorities reported that recent Russian ballistic missile and drone attacks caused significant damage to residential buildings, warehouses, and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. These strikes reportedly resulted in at least seven deaths and over 80 injuries. In response to the ongoing conflict, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that the prospects for a rapid peace agreement remain low, noting that recent Ukrainian actions have further diminished the potential for negotiations.
