Russia intensifies attacks on Ukrainian fuel stations, dozens injured
More than 200 Ukrainian fuel stations were struck by Russian drones and missiles in June and July, averaging about three attacks per day, according to Ukrainian officials. The campaign, aimed at intimidating civilians and sowing panic, has focused on stations near the front lines but also reached targets near Kyiv.
Police officer Mykhailo Tsypliakov recounted being wounded in the arm, legs and torso while attempting to assist at a burning station. He described the attacks as deliberate terrorism targeting civilian infrastructure.
In the city of Zaporizhzhia, acting mayor Regina Kharchenko reported 54 attacks on fuel stations over a 24‑day span up to July 27, resulting in four deaths and 29 injuries. The United Nations noted June as the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since 2022, while Russia has launched a record number of ballistic missiles in recent weeks. Western officials warned that President Vladimir Putin could further escalate the conflict in response to Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian industrial sites.
