Russia intensifies drone strikes on Ukraine and targets German airport

Russia has launched a sustained wave of drone attacks against Ukraine, targeting Kyiv and surrounding regions for five consecutive days. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that nearly 1,500 drones were deployed against Ukraine within a four-day period, with more than half equipped with jet engines. These strikes have targeted warehouses, residential buildings, and logistics hubs, including a terminal for Nova Poshta in the Odesa region. The continuous aerial activity has disrupted daily life, forcing millions to endure constant air raid sirens and causing delays in public transportation.

In a separate escalation of hybrid warfare, Latvia has issued a formal protest to the Russian embassy regarding a drone attack attempt at Leipzig Airport in Germany on August 4. Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže characterized the incident as a state-sponsored act of terrorism and a direct threat to European security. German authorities discovered explosive-laden drones near a Ukrainian cargo plane at the airport, an incident German officials say aligns with known Russian hybrid operation models intended to destabilize the European Union and NATO.
