Russia intensifies strikes on Ukraine and claims territorial gains
The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced a series of intensified military operations against Ukrainian infrastructure and territory. In response to Ukrainian drone and missile strikes that hit Russian civilian areas and infrastructure, Moscow has vowed to increase precision strikes on military targets in Kyiv.
On the ground, Russia claims to have captured 27 towns and over 670 square kilometers of territory throughout September, including advances in the Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Luhansk regions. The Ministry reported the liberation of several towns in Donetsk and ongoing operations to expand buffer zones in Kharkiv.
Aerial and maritime operations have also escalated. Russia reported targeting Ukrainian ports and vessels in Odesa to disrupt military supply lines, as well as striking a missile production facility, a data center in Kyiv, and logistics warehouses. Additionally, the Russian military claimed to have intercepted a large number of Ukrainian drones and cruise missiles during recent escalations.
