Russia-Ukraine conflict: Moscow issues threats as NATO jets intercept drone in Lithuania

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine persist as an energy truce fails to materialize. In a recent hybrid warfare development, two Italian fighter jets operating under NATO’s Task Force Air ‘Baltic Thunder III’ shot down a drone in Lithuania. Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, visiting Lithuania, emphasized Italy’s decade-long commitment to NATO’s eastern flank and the necessity of peace for European security.

In Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov blamed the ongoing conflict on the United States and Europe, claiming that the war would have ended a year ago if the parties had not abandoned the August 2025 Anchorage agreements between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. While the Kremlin has expressed positive views toward a proposed energy truce from Donald Trump, President Putin has not yet provided a formal agreement. Russia continues to accuse Ukraine of targeting refineries and industrial plants.
