Russia launches Grozny corvette for Pacific Fleet
Russia has launched the corvette Grozny, a Project 20380 Steregushchiy-class vessel, at the Amur Shipbuilding Plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The ship is intended for the Pacific Fleet and marks the fifth serial vessel of this project built at the facility.
The keel for the Grozny was laid on August 23, 2021. Following its launch using the Amurets pontoon dock, the vessel will remain at the shipyard for finishing works, pier trials, sea trials, and state testing. Admiral Viktor Lyina, commander of the Pacific Fleet, stated that the crew has been formed and began training on October 5.
Project 20380 corvettes are multi-purpose ships equipped with guided missiles designed for maritime patrol, anti-surface, anti-air, and anti-submarine warfare, as well as providing fire support for naval landings. These vessels also incorporate design features to reduce radar visibility. Once testing is complete, the Grozny is expected to join the fleet in the coming years, increasing the number of this specific type of ship in the Pacific Fleet to five.
